Behavioral Health Appointment Assistance Service will
answer your authorization questions and assist you in
making an off-post appointment for Behavioral Health
Services covered by Tricare.
Active duty service members and TRICARE Prime Remote
active duty service members: Active duty service members
(ADSMs) typically receive their behavioral health care from a
Military Treatment Facility (MTF), and the service member's
command must approve the behavioral health care before it is
received. If services are not available at the MTF or if the active
duty service member is not located near an MTF, the ADSM must
have a referral from their PCM and an authorization from Health
Net to seek any behavioral health care services from a civilian
network or non-network provider.
Active Duty Service Members may attend Behavioral Health appointments
with a Family Member at an off-post network provider
and be covered if the appointment is for Family Therapy
not marriage counseling (this may include husband and wife with
or without their children and may sometimes include individual
appointments).
TRICARE Prime and TRICARE Prime Remote For Active
Duty Family Members (TPRADFM) beneficiaries: These
beneficiaries may receive eight initial outpatient visits from a
network provider without a Primary Care Manager (PCM) or
Health Net referral. Note that care from certain types of behavioral
health providers requires written physician referral and
oversight in order to receive care – see details here.
